Bete lives in a village in the remote Dwarf Islands in Afram Plains. Bete and her husband CK live with their children and grandchildren in a cluster of village houses. Bete spends her days farming, cooking and caring for her large family. Bete and CK are very aware of the needs of the remote communities in Afram Plains. A storm can wash away a family's house, an illness which is easily treated on the mainland can become critical when you live hours away from medical care.
Life is fragile in remote places and caring for the vulnerable members of society is the job of the community, a job Bete takes seriously.
In 2013 she asked Love Ghana for £90 to set up a project buying goods in Dzemini and Dokorkrum to trade around her villages. She hopes to involve other women in her community providing some work for them to do. She will use some of the profits to help people in vulnerable situations.

This is Katsekpor and Bete's house. In 2011 their house was washed away in a flood and they had to start aagain.
In 2012 the Scots on the Love Ghana team spent a night in this house. It was very comfortable. We feel asleep to the sound of cicadas and awoke (earlier than planned!) to the cockerels crowing.
In 2015 we visited again and were delighted to find Bete's project thriving.
Every task takes time without plumbing or electricity. This is the women sorting out water for everyone to wash in the morning.
